About us

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Emerge For Africa Ltd emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support girls and their community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2012, we are an organisation driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support.

Our Vision

A world in which a child's gender is a part of her or his well-being in a supportive environment, rather than a barrier or threat to her or his well-being.

Our Mission

Contributing to the UNESCO's 'Education For All' programme goals by giving a voice to the most marginalised with the aim to enhance their educational experience, welfare and life chances.

Our Commitment

  • Developing Educational, Professional and Sensitisation Programmes suited to the Specific Needs of Marginalised Girls in multiple settings, ensuring their Full Participation.

  • Developing Collaborative and Participatory Approaches to Girls' Education, involving all Stakeholders.

  • Generating Mentors and developing Peer Learning Models to break the Cycle of Intergenerational Gender-Based Violence and Early Pregnancy.

  • Promoting Gender Equity and Equality at all levels of life.

  • Carrying out extensive nationally relevant research on risk factors and causes leading to violence against girls and early pregnancy in line with the Uganda National Strategy to End Child Marriage and Teenage Pregnancy (2014/2015- 2019/2020) from which to learn and disseminate best practices more widely throughout Uganda and East Africa.

  • Developing strong and constructive partnerships with government's Ministries, local community-based organisations, women's associations and groups, and other development organisations to better address girls and women's issues.

Our Approach

Achieving our aims requires the use of participatory approaches throughout all the stages of our programmes. Participatory approaches allow local people to take control of and make decisions about the kind of interventions they want in their communities. It strengthens their voices and increases their empowerment, responsibility and ownership.

How do we spend our money?

The members of our team work on a volunteer basis, so our finances are very simple and straight forward...90% of our funds go directly to our programmes.
